Playing A Room X Chromatic Inflation

A showcase event at Greatorex Street Gallery

I created a live soundscape further exploring my concept of "playing" a room as an instrument, using custom-built electromagnetic microphones to reveal the hidden frequencies that inhabit the space. I positioned these mics at various points around the room, each one tuned to distinct frequencies, allowing the ambient electromagnetic energy to shape the composition in real-time.

Throughout the evening, the soundscape evolved responding to the presence and movement of people. Their electronic devices—phones, tablets, watches—interacted subtly with the electromagnetic field, introducing new textures and tones to the sound. By fading each microphone’s input up and down at random intervals and layering effects, I transformed the room itself into a living, responsive instrument, echoing the dynamic interplay of people, technology, and environment in a shared space.
